These positions are based in Pretoria.
The CSIR has three opportunities for Interns: Chemical Engineering.
The incumbents will be afforded the opportunity for experiential learning and will participate in large multidisciplinary teams.
The Intern will also provide daily laboratory support, conduct analysis on samples and operate various laboratory equipment.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, plan and execute tasks under supervision.
- In-depth analysis and objective interpretation of data under supervision.
- Undertake laboratory and pilot plant research and development.
- Production of market acceptable product prototypes.
- Will need to do shift work and flexible working hours.
- Contribute to writing reports and manuscripts.
Qualifications and skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree chemical engineering;
- A strong work ethic (e.g. accountability and reliability) and the ability to work under supervision within a dynamic team environment;
- The following competencies are critical for this position: o Innovation;
o Sound technical knowledge;
o Integrity, lateral thinking ability; and
o Knowledge and appreciation of a cross-disciplinary project team environment. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute across the boundaries imposed by classical scientific disciplines.
The CSIR has an opportunity for an Intern: Mechanical Engineer.
The incumbent will engage in activities to improve and/or sustain equipment functionality.
This includes repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and procurement of parts/spares to ensure that the equipment is available for research activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Minimisation of down time associated with equipment breakdown;
- Contribute toward successful functioning of bioprocessing facilities;
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment under supervision;
- Assist the Equipment Engineer with installation and commissioning of equipment;
- Draft and contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s);
- Troubleshooting and repair of key equipment to minimise downtime (e.g. fermenters, centrifuges, extruders, etc.);
- Develop engineering drawings and P&ID’s;
- Procurement of spares;
- May be required to work overtime.Qualifications and skills:
